3D packshots give you total control over product presentation — without a photoshoot. The right angles, the right lighting, the right scene. Every time.
3D packshots are rendered product images in three-dimensional format — created using the same technology used in film and games. Instead of photographing the physical product, it is modelled digitally and placed in any environment. This gives you total control over angles, lighting and background, at a lower cost and with a shorter lead time than traditional product photography.
Why 3D packshots instead of traditional photography?
Product photography is costly, time-consuming and inflexible. Want to change the background, adjust an angle or update the packaging design? The entire shoot has to be redone. With 3D packshots, the change is made digitally — in hours rather than days.
The key advantages:
- Total control: Choose the exact angle, lighting and environment. No compromises based on what was possible on the shoot day.
- Flexibility: Update design, packaging or background without a new photoshoot.
- Scalability: Produce hundreds of product variants from a single 3D model.
- Consistent quality: Every image maintains exactly the same style and lighting — regardless of how many variants you need.
How the process works
1. Product modelling
The product is modelled in 3D based on existing packaging, technical drawings or photographs from multiple angles. If the product does not yet exist physically — for example at a launch or concept stage — it is modelled from scratch based on your specifications.
2. Scene design
We design the environment around the product: background, surface, reflections and lighting. The scene is adapted to your brand and the intended use case — advertisement, e-commerce, brochure or website.
3. Rendering
The product image is rendered in high resolution with realistic materials, reflections and shadows. The result is an image that is difficult to distinguish from a professional product photo — but with the ability to quickly produce new angles and variants.
Three ways 3D packshots increase your sales
Higher customer trust. Consumers who can see a product clearly, from multiple angles and in the right context, buy more. Blurry, inconsistent or poor-quality product images signal low quality.
Faster time-to-market. You do not need to wait for production prototypes to start marketing. The 3D model is created in parallel with manufacturing.
Adaptation per market and channel. The same product can be presented against different backgrounds for different audiences, countries or seasons — without new photoshoots.
When do 3D packshots work best?
3D packshots are an excellent choice when:
- You have many product variants (colours, sizes, packaging) that need consistent imagery
- The product is difficult to photograph — small, shiny, transparent or complex in shape
- You need images before the product has been manufactured
- You want to update images continuously without new shoot days
Combined with animated film or commercial film, 3D packshots can create a complete campaign with product visualisations that move, rotate and interact with their environment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a photograph and a 3D packshot?
A photograph is a photo of the physical product, limited by the studio setup and the product's actual condition. A 3D packshot is a computer-rendered image based on the product's exact geometry — giving total control over lighting, angles and reflections. The 3D version can be easily updated when packaging changes without a new photoshoot.
How long does it take to produce 3D packshots?
2–4 weeks for a standard package with one product in 5–8 standard angles. The timeline depends on the product's complexity and the number of variants. We work with your existing packaging materials and product specifications as source material.
How much do 3D packshots cost compared to traditional photography?
Production typically costs SEK 15,000–50,000 for a product range — comparable to a professional photoshoot, but without the costs for studio, props, travel and physical product samples. The value increases when you need to update packaging, as you already have the 3D model that the initial investment created.
Can 3D packshots be used in all channels and formats?
Yes. We deliver in all standard formats: PNG with transparent background for e-commerce and print, JPG for social media, animated GIF and MP4 for digital ads. The resolution is unlimited — the same 3D model generates everything from icons to large-format print without quality loss.
